Scholz against fighter jet debate, Heusgen doubts the use of nuclear weapons

Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has again criticized the debate on the delivery of fighter jets to Ukraine. “It's idiosyncratic, that this debate is going on. Some people have to ask themselves: Why is he asking the question, where it's at, to help the Ukrainians”, said Scholz at a press conference in Santiago de Chile. A serious debate is now necessary and not “an outbidding competition (…), in which perhaps domestic political motives rather than support for Ukraine are in the foreground”
The head of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, don't count on it, that Russia used nuclear weapons in the Ukraine war. President Vladimir Putin knows, “that he cannot use nuclear weapons, because then he loses the support of his most important partner China, which warned against the use of nuclear weapons”, he told the Rheinische Post and the Bonner General-Anzeiger. “He won't risk that. Without China, Russia is isolated in the world.” Putin threatened to use nuclear weapons, “especially to intimidate us in Germany and Europe”.
According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine needs faster deliveries of weapons and new types of weapons, to withstand Russian attacks. The situation in Donetsk is very difficult, said Zelenskyj in his evening speech. The cities of Bachmut and Wuhledar in particular are still exposed to constant Russian shelling. Despite high losses in their own ranks, the Russians did not reduce the intensity of their attacks there. “Russia hopes, prolong the war and exhaust our strength”, said Selensky. “So we must make time our weapon. We must hasten events.” Zelenskyj also announced on Telegram: “2023 must and will definitely be the year of our victory!”
