humanitarian shipment to Ukraine masked cannabis trafficking

The Spanish authorities announced on Monday 5 December having dismantled a major drug trafficking network accused of concealing cannabis in a fake humanitarian convoy for Ukraine in order to send it to several European countries.
According to the Spanish Civil Guard, Thirty people in total were arrested as part of this operation, carried out in several towns in Andalusia (Sud), of which Seville, Málaga et Grenada. The suspects, of Spanish nationality, Ukrainian, german and moroccan, were supplied “in cannabis plantations scattered throughout Andalusian territory”, the Civil Guard said in a statement..
To export their goods, “they hid it in cardboard boxes” which they passed off as “provisions and humanitarian aid for Ukraine”, add the press release. A fake “solidarity caravan” had been set up for this, with vans registered in Ukraine. The traffickers "thought to go unnoticed during police and border checks", highlights the press release. During the operation, close to 800.000 euros were seized, as well as six firearms and 2500 cannabis plants, according to the Civil Guard.
