For three quarters of French people, today's youth are a sacrificed generation

Whether in terms of their studies, of their job or their emotional life, according to an Odoxa survey, 75% of young people believe they have suffered significant harm due to the health crisis.

Those under thirty are convinced of it, their elders do not blame them : for three-quarters of French people, today's youth are a sacrificed generation. She is both the one which is currently the most penalized by the health crisis and its consequences » (65% think so), but especially the one “ which will be even more penalized in the future by the economic consequences of this health crisis » (85%), details an Odoxa survey for Le Figaro et FranceInfo*. Whether in terms of their studies, of their job or their emotional life, 75% of young people believe they have suffered significant harm due to the health crisis.

On social networks, “young people who speak out about the Covid epidemic are often disillusioned, observes Véronique Reille Soult, Managing Director of Dentsu Consulting. The younger they are, the more the feeling of missing out on their “beautiful carefree years” is manifest”. If we pity the youth, we also make some criticisms of him… One in two French people and above all 69% more than 65 years think that “ of all generations, it is young people who are most responsible for the current health situation because they are the ones who have spread the epidemic the most ». Among young people themselves, 4 people on 10 share this severe judgment regarding their responsibility.

If these young people are struggling " Today, the future doesn't seem much rosier to them : 70% of students are afraid of encountering difficulties in completing their studies and nearly one in two young workers (47%) fears not being able to keep a job or find one. «Covid worries them both, a little for their own health (46% young people and 59% the French), but especially that of their loved ones (80% one like the other), comments Gaël Sliman, president of Odoxa. It is this awareness of the danger represented by the disease for those close to them that explains why young people still manage to hold on and accept the constraints of confinement which are so painful for them.».

The second confinement ? While the French do not ultimately experience it so badly, 57% young people find it difficult to bear, and everything or almost they miss from their life before : amis, families, dating and love life. Close to 18-24 ans, the break is obvious with the first confinement, notes the study: their weariness has progressed 14 points since last March. However, young people, just like all French people, think that confinement is a good measure (65%) and it is effective (60%). And one in two young people even believes that it should be extended for another fifteen days…
